History
The Sisters of Loretto, responding to Bishop Jean Baptiste Lamy, opened a school called Academt of Our Lady of Light in 1853. The Loretto Chapel was started in 1873 and took five years to complete but additions and renovations continued through the 1890s. Once completed, no room was left to build a staricase for the Sisters to get to the Choir loft so a 22 foot ladder was constructed. The Sisters prayed nine days straight for a resolution to their problem. On the ninth day, a man showed up looking for work. Each night, the gentleman would leave and return the next morning with more materials, using only a hammer, level and water to build the stairs. He built the spiral staircase in about six months ... then disappeared. Other mysteries include: wooden pegs (no nails) were used in its construction, 33 steps were built from the floor to the loft (Jesus died when he was 33 years old), there were no visible means of support for the staircase (though today rails and support brackets have been added for safety), materials used were NOT native to the surrounding area and though they tried, no one ever found or heard of the carpenter again.

Personal Account
This fabulous chapel was typical of the area with very ornate altars, fabulous stained glass windows and wonderful artwork. We entered the Chapel on the morning of June 3, 2007 and spent some time just sitting in the pews and absorbing the atmosphere and light of the Spirit. Initially, pictures did not seem to offer any evidence. However, once we returned home and looked at the photographs, some fabulous orb activity presented itself. In particular is a picture of the spiral staircase in which it looks as if three orbs are either ascending or descending the stairs. This is reminiscent of photographs throughout the chapel showing the Sisters lined on the staircase ascending to the loft. Other photographs were also captured and added here for your own interpretation.
